[Introduction to KOREA]

*Click Here For More Detailed Information

Korea is beautiful mountainous peninsula stretching south from Northeast Asia. During their 5,000-year history, the Koreans have created an outstanding culture, and their uniqueness resonates throughout the land. Korea is currently the only nation on the globe remaining ideologically divided. Republic of Korea in the South has a population of 47 million, of which 10 million live in the capital, Seoul. South Korea had one of the fastest economic developments in the world since the 1960s and is now the 3rd largest economy in Asia and the 11th largest economy in the world. The nation is home to many of the world's largest transnational corporations such as Samsung, Hyundai, SK and LG.

o Geographical Make-up

Mountains cover 70% of Korea's land mass, making it one of the most mountainous regions in the world. The lifting and folding of Korea’s granite and limestone base creates breathtaking landscapes of scenic hills and valleys. The mountain range that stretches the length of the east coast falls steeply into the East Sea, while along the southern and western coasts, the mountains descend gradually to the coastal plains that produce the bulk of Korea’s agricultural crops, especially rice.

o Climate

Korea's climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoon climate from a precipitation standpoint. The climate of Korea is characterized by four distinct seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Spring of Korea
Spring lasts from late March to May and is warm. Various flowers, including the picturesque cherry blossom, cover the nation's mountains and fields during this time.

Summer of Korea
Summer lasts from June to early September. It is a hot and humid time of the year.

Autumn of Korea
Autumn lasts from September to November, and produces mild weather. It is the best season for visiting Korea.

Winter of Korea
Winter lasts from December to mid-March. It can be bitterly cold during this time due to the influx of cold Siberian air. Heavy snow in the northern and eastern parts of Korea makes favorable skiing conditions.
